I come with love. |

High up in the Kaiholena Mountains the divine rhythm of Kupuna Ipu’s sacred Ipu (gourd) echoes the wisdom of the ancestors as her sister Kupuna Kaili gracefully dances the Hula. The sisters are honoring the Akuas (divine spirits) of the forest. The graceful movements of their hands and bodies tell stories about the wonders of nature, the creation of the world and the traditions of the Hawaiian people. Ipu is named after the Hawaiian Ipus which grow on a vine. She picked the most beautiful one, cleaned, polished and decorated it with a Kukui Nut lei. The gourd became Ipu’s most treasured possession. |

Ipu is a Kupuna, one of the older people honored with Aloha as grandparents and ancestors by all. Kupunas are the source of experience, knowledge, guidance, strength and inspiration to the next generations. They are a blessing being the ones we came from, who have lived before us and who we live for today. |

Ipu wears a beige Muumuu with an Ipu design, green crocheted shoes and a Lauhala hat with a green feather lei on her gray hair. Today she put on her favorite Plumeria earrings. Ipu’s neck is adorned with a Kukui nut and conch shell lei. Kukui represents inner light and spirit revealing itself. Ipu likes to wear her glasses so that she can clearly see all the beauty of nature. |
